It seems that matcha drinks are really popular around the world right now. When I hear the word matcha, I imagine the bitter green tea served during tea ceremonies—but what kind of drink do you imagine?
According to the news, overseas matcha drinks come in many different variations—like matcha lemonade and matcha macchiato. I don’t really know what they taste like, but they sound delicious! They’re also colorful and apparently look great in photos. If you post them on Instagram or similar platforms, maybe you’ll get a lot of likes!
Because matcha drinks are so popular globally, Japan is exporting a lot of matcha. According to the Ministry of Finance, in 2024, exports of green tea including matcha reached 36.4 billion yen—a record high. That’s amazing!
